Global Hope Network International field leaders in Nigeria bring us an exciting progress update!

The Zethar Al-Umma Comprehensive College, which is a part of the Zethar Al-Umma Youth Center Project in Sokoto admitted its first set of students in September 2012. The opening of this school provided a solution to the financial challenge hitherto encountered by some parents who could not afford the exorbitant fees charged by other private schools in the city. The school focuses on serving underprivileged and indigent children.

While comparing notes with their colleagues from other schools, the students of Al-Umma College discovered they have a more comprehensive academic and extracurricular program which focuses on character development in addition to intellect.

Home Management, one of the subjects taught in the school this session, has changed the life of Simchah. A 10 year old who previously disliked house and kitchen work, Simchah now cooks and helps his mother with household chores.  Field leaders working with the center report, “His mother is really excited about this change!”

Where other schools don’t have access to computer, the students at the center have an advantage of the cybercafé for computer studies supplied by the generosity of GHNI donors.
